NOT A DAY OFF.  IT’S A DAY OF SERVICE.

Celebrating the MLK Holiday 2020

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday brings millions of Americans together for a day of national service and conversations to improve and betters our communities. Join us locally to keep our community looking good #teamuptocleanup and a follow up panel conversation on the school to prison pipeline in which the following will be addressed:

  • Inclusiveness, sense of belonging, feeling of acceptance, making roots and connections, a sense of giving and taking.
  • Ability to contribute to community, free of barriers, where everybody feels safe, where trust is present, and mistakes are learning opportunities.
  • Cultural identity remains strong and is seen as an asset.
  • The experience and definition of integration is personal.
  • Having a voice that is taken seriously in a community in which one identifies as belonging and is recognized by all as a true community member.

Starting the MLK Day:  “Team Up to Clean Up”

We are requesting that you spend your morning with the NAACP Cheltenham Area Branch by teaming up to clean up the exit ramp at Rt. 309 and Paper Mill Road Exit named in honoring Bishop David and Catherine Graham.

The Branch will be honoring the memory of the late Bishop David and Catherine Graham, who were local legends in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties.  Both were very active in the Civil Rights Movement in Philadelphia. They served our community in many capacities, from marching for equality, planning in the Girard College protest, voter rights initiatives (having had 2 family members lynched in 1959 in South Carolina while registering voters) and feeding the homeless from their own Church based ministries.

Let’s get the exit at Rt. 309 and Paper Mill Road back in tip top condition and keep our community beautiful.
