a sparkling day in springfield
The Cheltenham Area Branch NAACP’s 1st Annual Service Day project left Springfield 309 exit (Paper Mill Road) sparkling clean. Volunteers from the community, and many elected officials rolled up their sleeves (or maybe not because it was a bit chilly) but they donned their Penn Dot gloves and went to work (shout out to Penn Dot). If you drove that stretch on MLK Day, you may have seen our Chief County Defender,Dean Beer bagging garbage, or Montgomery County Commissioners, Val Arkoosh and Ken Lawrence strategically eyeing some sneaky debris in the brush. You may even have seen the best dressed person on the clean up crew, our 1st Vice President, William Taylor III, in full trench coat and dress shoes battling with a papers blowing in the wind, or our 2nd Vice President, Sandra Jenkins, keeping the troops in line.
The CANB would like to thank everyone that pitched in from Springfield and all her neighboring communities including Cheltenham, Jenkintown, to as far as Plymouth Meeting. It was very much a crisp morning but everybody warmed right up afterwards with nice, hot cocoa. The event’s chief organizer, Eddie Graham, was extremely happy with this first event as he stated “I couldn’t have done this without all of you. I am overwhelmed with today’s turnout. It take’s a community.”
If you didn’t make it out this year, there will be more opportunities to volunteer. Contact us at contactus@cheltenhamnaacp.com to find out more.
