The census is soon approaching and the Political Action Committee has been working very hard to make sure that our area is not undercounted. After reviewing census data, it was identified that one major area in the Cheltenham Area branch’s service area is considered a hard-to-count (HTC) tract and that area is Lynnewood Garden Apartments in Cheltenham. Sandra Jenkins (2nd Vice-President) and Nicole McGruder (branch member) have developed a strong initiative to make sure that this area is counted. They have proudly dubbed it “Lynnewood Counts 2020.” With partnering with Lynnewood Gardens and also local community partners, they will coordinate a diverse mix of census-related programming to help the residents become more comfortable with this upcoming census with the goal of increased participation as it was below 70% with the first mailing in the 2010 census. Keep a lookout for the engaging census-related programming that is being brought to this community.
