Cheltenham Area Branch
PO Box 151
Wyncote, PA. 19095
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded in 1909. It is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its members throughout the United States and the world are the preeminent advocates for civil and human rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sector.
The Cheltenham Area Branch was chartered in 1999. We are a diverse group and that bodes well for this community, which is itself diverse, with people from all walks of life, with different religions, cultural, ethnic and racial backgrounds. The branch presents speaker forums covering topics such as; Education, Civil and Human Rights, Politics, Art, Emergency Management, Financial planning, Health, Criminal Justice and many others. During election years, Candidates Nights are held to inform the members of political candidates' positions.
Over the ensuing years, we've received complaints from citizens of this community concerning problems with the criminal justice system, schools, employment, health care and commercial institutions. I'm pleased to report that all complaints, save one, have been resolved. The Cheltenham Area Branch, NAACP, wish to thank the area Townships that have supported us over the years: Plymouth-Whitemarsh, Springfield , Jenkintown Borough and in particular, Cheltenham .
I know it has been said that the NAACP is an old, tired and irrelevant organization, filled with old people with old ideas. Nothing could be further from the truth, because historically speaking, when people believe they've been wronged or unfairly treated, they usually turn to the NAACP. Why? Because we're the largest and most respected, the oldest and most effective civil rights organization in America .
We're your organization and we're here whenever you need us. But don't wait until you need us. Join with us today and become "A Freedom Fighter for the 21 s ' Century"
